If you enjoy wine but prefer a more social environment for tasting as distinct from a formal sit down, check out the iYellow Wine Club, fronted by wine enthusiast Angela Aiello. Membership is free. Once you have signed up, you will get regular invites to wine events, typically at funky downtown locations, and wine tours to Niagara & Prince Edward County. iYellow also has a wine school. It uses Facebook and Twitter to keep in touch with its members and often posts event highlights on You Tube.
Another option is Meetup – an online social networking portal that facilitates offline group meetings in cities around the world. It allows members to find and join groups unified by a common interest. It was designed as a way for organizers to manage the many functions associated with group meetings, and for individuals to find groups that fit their interests. Users enter their city or their postal code and tag the topic they want to meet about. The service is free of charge to individuals who log in as members.
